The new WTA tournament scheduled to take place in Louisville will not be played this season, tournament organizers have announced.
According to *The Courier-Journal* in Louisville, the tournament’s executive director cited "unforeseen circumstances," and said the WTA has granted the event permission to be held in 2017.
The event has seen top executives resign with little explanation in recent weeks, including the former tournament director. There also appeared to be problems with the chosen site, the Louisville Boat Club, with The Courier-Journal previously reporting that organizers had looked at an alternative, but not made any other arrangements.
The newspaper also reported that the Kentucky Attorney General's office is investigating the event. The tournament had secured local sponsors and also sold ticket packages at $13,000 each. The executive director said in the announcement that officials were talking with those that had invested in the tournament.
The WTA has not said whether it will schedule an alternative International Tournament for the week of August 20-27.
