TC LIVE: Barty's retirement

Ashleigh Barty is enjoying retirement and says she has no plans to start a tennis comeback or, contrary to speculation, a golf career.

The 26-year-old called it quits this season following her Australian Open victory at home, one of the biggest triumphs of her career.

"I’ve no regrets about retiring. Not one," she told the Guardian while attending golf's British Open in Scotland this week. "And I know that a lot of people may still not understand it.

"And yeah, it’s been incredible. It’s been everything that I’ve ever wanted."

Barty, who also won the French Open and Wimbledon and hung up her racquet as the WTA world No. 1, had already retired once before. She played professional cricket during her break from the tour, but she is not looking to start another sporting career this time around.

"Golf is a hobby," Barty insisted. "I know what it takes to get to the very top of any sport, and I don’t have the desire or want to do the work required."

These days, the Aussie can sit back and watch others, like the top golfers competing in the Open this week. ''It is incredible to see those guys doing their thing,” said Barty, also noting she didn't watch but did follow the action from Wimbledon.

Prior to announcing her retirement, Barty had said she planned to marry her longtime boyfriend, Garry, sometime during this year, and now has an open schedule in between doing charity work Down Under.

"Retirement has been a really seamless transition," she said. "And because I knew it was coming for a while, there wasn't much of an adjustment."
