Victoria Azarenka says her poor relationship with the media up until last summer was largely caused by her lack of training as to how to deal with the press and because she did not understand the purpose of it. The Belarusian was sent to the United States at a young age without her parents.
"I was a 15 and 16-year-old girl who was always independent and my parents were not around much and I didn’t realize [it was important],” she told TENNIS.com. "I actually regret that stuff a lot because I could have turned around a few things and people getting to know me better, not starting now and that would have been more in my favor."
Azarenka also said that it was trainer Scott Byrnes’ call to leave her camp after Wimbledon and rejoin Ana Ivanovic’s team. "It was his decision,” Azarenka said. "I can’t be upset. People make their own choices in life and for me whatever happens, happens for a reason. I’m optimistic about a lot of things in life."
The world number four recently hired Mike Guevara from the Elite Performance Factory in Los Angeles as her new physio, whom she calls young and motivated.
