Victoria Azarenka is forced to retire in her Indian Wells quarterfinal against No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki down 0-3 with a left hip injury on Thursday. Azarenka suffered the injury while running to her right in the second game of the match. Wozniacki will now meet the winner of the match between Maria Sharapova and Shuai Peng.

The 21-year-old Azarenka has had some bad luck with injuries and illnesses at big tournaments, as she was forced to retire in the second round of the 2010 U.S. Open after she suffered a concussion prior the match, and was forced to retire against Serena Williams in the fourth round 2009 Australian Open with heat illness after she had won the first set. She also pulled out of her doubles semifinal with Maria Kirilenko against Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy.—Matthew Cronin
