Back injury forces Tomas Berdych to withdraw from French Open

Tomas Berdych has withdrawn from the French Open with an ongoing back injury.

The Czech returned from an injury layoff at the beginning of the season but has been experiencing more problems. He hasn't played since Indian Wells.

Berydch said he went to Paris and practiced before deciding to withdraw. "I am not 100 percent ready to play the way I want to be," he said on Twitter.

Berdych indicated he plans to return during the grass-court season. The Top 10 mainstay has fallen to No. 100 in the ATP rankings.

The 33-year-old joined Kevin Anderson, John Isner and Maria Sharapova among the players who previously pulled out from the Paris major. Milos Raonic and Camila Giorgi were later announced Thursday as additional pre-tournament withdrawals.
