The slice backhand is not the most powerful shot in tennis, but it can be very effective. It can deaden a powerful rally ball in its tracks, produce a skidding shot that's difficult to handle, or lead to a delicate drop shot that falls like a feather from the sky. No matter the desired effect, the slice is a beauty to behold, and to look at in a single frame. Here, Magdalena Rybarikova shows the carving motion necessary to make it a weapon, even on defense.
