PERTH, Australia (AP) Justine Henin has won the final five games of the match to beat Bethanie Mattek-Sands 7-6 (6), 6-3 and give Belgium a 1-0 lead over the United States in the Hopman Cup mixed teams tennis final.
Henin also saved two set points in the first set after the players had exchanged eight straight service breaks.
John Isner of the United States will attempt to even the match when he takes on Ruben Bemelmans in men's singles, with mixed doubles to follow.
Belgium advanced as a surprise finalist from Group A when first-place finishers Serbia could not contest the final due to an abdominal injury to Ana Ivanovic.
