CHENNAI, India (AP)—Top-seeded Tomas Berdych cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win Tuesday over Frederico Gil of Portugal to move into the second round of the Chennai Open.

The No. 6-ranked Berdych won in 45 minutes against his 101st-ranked opponent, who managed to win only the sixth game of the second set. Berdych will meet Ivan Dodig of Croatia in the next round.

Third-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Indian wildcard Rohan Bopanna 6-4, 6-4. Fourth-seeded Richard Gasquet of France stopped qualifier Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-1, 6-3, and seventh-seeded Xavier Malisse of Belgium beat Marsel Ilhan of Turkey 6-3, 6-1.

Fifth-seeded Jeremy Chardy lost 6-3, 6-2 to Blaz Kavcic in the only upset of the day.
