FLASHBACK: Bianca Andreescu speaks with the media after her 2021 BNP Paribas Open second-round win.

Bianca Andreescu appears to have scheduled her first tournament appearance of the season, receiving a wild card into the WTA indoor clay court event at Stuttgart.

The tournament announced that the 21-year-old Canadian is among the wild card entries, along with German players Laura Siegemund and Jule Niemeier, for the competition starting in two weeks.

Andreescu has not played since finishing her 2021 season at the rescheduled BNP Paribas Open, saying in a pre-season statement that she wanted to take "extra time to reset, recover and grow" before starting this season. She had not given a date for her return to competition.

But social media shared by Andreescu has suggested she has returned to training in recent weeks, and she was pictured on court with Fabrice Santoro, a former ATP player, at Rafael Nadal's Mallorca academy following a hitting session.

She joins Iga Swiatek, the tour's new No. 1, and Emma Raducanu, reigning champion at the US Open, in the Stuttgart field. Andreescu won the 2019 US Open.

A limited schedule and injury problems have dropped her to No. 119 in the rankings.
