PARIS(AP) James Blake of the United States has beaten Fabrice Santoro of France 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the Paris Masters.
Blake broke Santoro's serve twice in each set on Sunday. He next plays fourth-seeded Andy Murray of Britain.
The 36-year-old Santoro is playing in his final season on the ATP tour and swapped jerseys with Blake after the match. He then took a lap around the court to warm applause from the crowd at Bercy indoor arena.
Later, Benjamin Becker of Germany was scheduled to play Michael Llodra of France. The winner will meet No. 6 Nikolay Davydenko of Russia.
