Borna Gojo has etched his name into the history of tennis in Michoacán, Mexico by winning the 2026 edition of the Morelia Open. In Saturday’s final held at Estadio Tres Marías, the eighth seed asserted his authority on hard courts with a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over Argentina’s Juan Pablo Ficovich. The match, which lasted one hour and 32 minutes, was a display of power, composure, and precision from the Croatian.

The opening set was a tightly contested battle dominated by strong serving from both players, ultimately decided in a tense tie-break. Gojo showed greater composure in the key moments to edge it 7-6(5). Carrying that momentum into the second set, he elevated his level, breaking Ficovich’s serve at crucial stages and closing out the match convincingly 6-2.

After securing the trophy, the 28-year-old Split native reflected on the challenge of the final and the significance of the victory. “It was a very difficult match. Juan is a great opponent, but today the weather was a challenge for both of us, and in the end, I managed to close it out with my serve. This victory means a lot to me. The past two years have been very difficult after a back injury, but today I’ve won the biggest title of my career and I’m very grateful to Morelia and Mexico for the past few weeks,” he said.

This triumph confirms Gojo’s outstanding form in 2026, particularly on Mexican soil. It marks his second title in the country this year, following his victory at the Challenger in Metepec in February. The win also reinforces his reputation as a hard-court specialist, as all four of his ATP Challenger titles have come on fast surfaces, adding to his previous successes in Ortisei, Italy in 2022 and Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2024.

Gojo capped off a dominant week in Morelia, dropping just one set throughout the tournament - against Quinn Vandecasteele in the second round - and demonstrating excellent adaptation to the altitude conditions in the region. With the 125 ATP Ranking points earned, he climbs 12 places in the world rankings, moving from No. 151 to No. 139.

Medjedovic triumphs at Napoli Tennis Cup

On Sunday, Hamad Medjedovic was crowned champion of the 2026 Guerri Napoli Tennis Cup—the first Tennis Channel ATP Challenger 125 Showcase clay-court event of the season. The 22-year-old Serbian defeated Germany’s Daniel Altmaier in the final with a commanding 6-2, 6-4 victory in one hour and 37 minutes.

It was a one-sided final, with Medjedovic clearly establishing himself as the strongest player of the tournament despite facing the top seed and world No. 55. Long regarded as a protégé of Novak Djokovic, who has supported him since his junior days, the Novi Pazar native controlled the match from the outset, racing through the first set and calmly managing Altmaier’s attempted comeback in the second. His performance drew repeated applause from a sold-out crowd on Center Court.

Fifth-seeded Medjedovic steadily improved throughout the week. After early struggles against Czech qualifier Hynek Barton and Stefanos Sakellaridis of Greece, he went on to dominate Frenchman Alexandre Muller in the quarterfinals and Ukrainian Vitaliy Sachko in the semifinals.

"It has been an amazing week. I am really happy to win this tournament," Medjedovic said. "It's the first clay-court tournament of the season and I came here without high expectations. But with the support from an amazing crowd, I managed to play a great level of tennis. I was a bit sick at the beginning of the week but was able to increase my level every round and eventually win the trophy."

With the 125 ATP Ranking points earned from his victory, Medjedovic will return to the Top 100, rising to No. 81 in the rankings from No. 115. Altmaier will also improve his position, climbing to No. 52 in the world.

The 2026 edition of the Guerri Napoli Tennis Cup concluded with record-breaking numbers, surpassing the success of 2025 in terms of attendance and overall participation at the club and surrounding fan village during the eight days of competition.

“The organizational and public success of the Guerri Napoli Tennis Cup has been exciting,” said Antonio Santa Maria, General Manager of organizer Master Group Sport. “The setting of the Tennis Club Napoli is unique in the world, but that alone is not enough; it requires efficient organization in every aspect. We paid attention to every detail in terms of services for players and fans to maintain a high level for the event.

"I thank the athletes, the public, the institutions, the partners, and especially the Guerri Group for becoming title sponsor. I also thank the Tennis Club Napoli and its president Riccardo Villari for their trust. Our first goal was to bring Naples back to the center of international tennis, and I believe that after three editions we have fully achieved it."
