Borna Gojo has etched his name into the history of tennis in Michoacán, Mexico by winning the 2026 edition of the Morelia Open. In Saturday’s final held at Estadio Tres Marías, the eighth seed asserted his authority on hard courts with a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over Argentina’s Juan Pablo Ficovich. The match, which lasted one hour and 32 minutes, was a display of power, composure, and precision from the Croatian.
The opening set was a tightly contested battle dominated by strong serving from both players, ultimately decided in a tense tie-break. Gojo showed greater composure in the key moments to edge it 7-6(5). Carrying that momentum into the second set, he elevated his level, breaking Ficovich’s serve at crucial stages and closing out the match convincingly 6-2.
After securing the trophy, the 28-year-old Split native reflected on the challenge of the final and the significance of the victory. “It was a very difficult match. Juan is a great opponent, but today the weather was a challenge for both of us, and in the end, I managed to close it out with my serve. This victory means a lot to me. The past two years have been very difficult after a back injury, but today I’ve won the biggest title of my career and I’m very grateful to Morelia and Mexico for the past few weeks,” he said.
