First it was Lance Armstrong, then Andy Roddick, now the USTA. The overseers of American tennis have made a deal to churn out up to 80,000 bracelets bearing the legend, “Tennis for Life,” a phrase trademarked by tennis evangelist, teaching pro, author—and, evidently, smart cookie—Peter Burwash. “Tennis for Life” is the title of a book written by Burwash way back in 1981. While we’re on this subject, I’m throwing in the link to the Tennis Welcome Centers, just on the off-chance that you might know someone who may be interested in taking up the game. Those of us who labor in the trenches of tennis often don’t think so “small,” but if everyone sent an informal invite to take up the game to at least 10 non-players on his or her contact list, who knows how many tennis players we could create?
