Sergei Bubka Jr. tells The National that perhaps he should have followed his gold medal-winning father into pole vaulting. Bubka Jr., who qualified and reach the second round of Dubai, is ranked No. 342 and is 24 years old.
"It’s very difficult for it to happen, because he set bar really, really high, 6.15,” said Bubka. "Yeah, but I definitely want to make a name for myself and be recognized for any achievements."??
Bubka Sr. still holds the world pole-vaulting records in both indoor and outdoor venues. "Now I start to think I would probably have good genetics for it,” he said. “But, no, I really never wanted to be a pole vaulter. I always had a dream to be a tennis player since I tried it for the first time."—Matthew Cronin
