WATCH: The Break, Episode 34

Organizers of the Argentina Open, a Buenos Aires ATP 250 event played the first week of February, have confirmed they are keeping a wildcard for home favorite Juan Martin del Potro.

Off since 2019 with repeated knee problems, del Potro recently announced he aims to come back next season during the South American swing.

"It would be very special to come back in Buenos Aires and then play in Rio," he said.

But del Potro's appearance will "depend on his physical condition," with injuries a frequent occurrence for the 2010 champion of the US Open.

"It is a decision that the player must make when he considers that he is fit to play," said the tournament director.

Austrian Dominic Thiem, also returning from an injury layoff, is also scheduled to play Buenos Aires as top seed.
