Various Argentine publications are reporting that Martin Jaite will be named captain of the Davis Cup team. Another former player, Mariano Zabalata, will serve as a coach and join Jaite, who once coached David Nalbandian.
The Argentina Tennis Federation decided not to renew Captain Tito Vazquez’s contract after the nation lost to Spain in the final. Vasquez does not get along with David Nalbandian, whom he criticized for lacking a proper leadership style in the locker room.
La Nacion also reports that Vazquez did not like how Nalbandian spent more time texting then watching his teammates’ matches. The newspaper noted that former-Top 5 player has had run-ins with three members of the squad since he began playing: former French Open finalist Guillermo Coria, teammate Juan Martin Del Potro, and now Vasquez.
