The Social Net: Thiem pulls out from National Bank Open

The ATP and WTA events in Canada are now officially on, having received approval from the national government two weeks before the start of play of the National Bank Open in Montreal and Toronto.

Tennis Canada said it had received official authorization from the Public Health Agency of Canada to allow players and personnel to enter, along with permission to have up to 5,000 fans at each session. The tournaments had previously received provincial authorization to go ahead.

Both events were canceled last year. The two cities have traditionally alternated the men's and women's events and will be keeping the 2020 schedule, with this season's WTA stop in Montreal and the ATP in Toronto.

World No. 1s Novak Djokovic and Ash Barty and No. 6 Dominic Thiem are among those who have withdrawn, though most Top 10 players are still in the fields for the 1000-level tournaments.
