Carlos Alcaraz answered a big question on Saturday at the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships in an otherwise straightforward 6-4, 6-3 win over Belgian Zizou Bergs.

The world No. 1 twisted his left ankle in his opening win over Sebastian Baez, but looked none the worse for wear against Bergs in a one hour and 19-minute triumph.

He came from an early break down in the opening set by winning four straight games, and won the first three games of the second set to ease into a quarterfinal meeting with American Brandon Nakashima.

Afterwards, Alcaraz gave credit to his longtime physiotherapist, Juanjo Moreno, and the rest of his team for getting him into fighting shape again quickly.

"It was tough and it was a really important day and a half I had to recover as good as I could," Alcaraz said.

"I have said it before and I will say it again, I have the best physio in the world, who I trust 100%. The work he has done for the ankle has been great. I could play normally, which is great. Sometimes I was worried about some movements, when I could feel the ankle, but in general I played some great tennis, a great match."

Also through to the quarterfinals on Saturday was No. 3 seed Holger Rune, who beat American Ethan Quinn, as Alcaraz and Rune joined No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz and No. 4 seed Casper Ruud in the last eight.
