What a trio! Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek, Jannik Sinner to all chase Career Grand Slam in 2026

Three tennis superstars will chase major history come 2026, with all needing one piece of hardware to complete a Career Grand Slam.

Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner joined Carlos Alcaraz in the hunt for the historic achievement thanks to their Wimbledon triumphs over the weekend. All three will be under the age of 25 when making their bids next season.

Swiatek may be the most surprising candidate of the three, given she hadn’t won a grass-court title prior to this fortnight and had one prior quarterfinal appearance at SW19 to her name. The six-time major winner showed encouraging progress on the surface when she finished runner-up at Bad Homburg’s WTA 500 and continued building confidence with each passing victory at The Championships.

The Pole stormed to the finish line in spectacular fashion, winning the final 20 games she played en route to serving up the first double bagel in a major championship since Stefanie Graf at the 1988 French Open.

“This one and the US Open for sure feels better because no one expected that. It wasn't a relief,” Swiatek reflected in her press conference Saturday. “It was more of just good tennis and working to make it happen without this baggage on your shoulders.”

Whether it’s next year or further down the road, the 24-year-old should like her chances to replicate all of her successes in Melbourne. This past January, Swiatek stood within a point of reaching her first Australian Open title match before falling to eventual winner Madison Keys in a dramatic final-set tiebreaker.

Sinner halted Alcaraz’s 20-match win streak at the All England Club to celebrate his first Grand Slam victory away from hard courts on Sunday evening. The world No. 1, now 2-0 against the 22-year-old at Wimbledon, had previously been a semifinalist two years earlier in London and triumphed at Halle in June 2024 for his first grass-court title.

“I tried to believe in myself and to accept whatever happens. There is only one way to get better as a player,” reflected Sinner. “Hopefully, if you do that, the chances that you win matches is higher because you put your effort in, daily effort. This is exactly what we did.”

The San Candido native now needs Roland Garros to own the full set of majors. It was in Paris where Sinner first emerged on the Grand Slam stage with a quarterfinal showing as a teenager and five years later, came as close as one can to capturing the crown without taking it home. The 23-year-old ultimately lost a decisive tiebreaker to Alcaraz after holding three championship points on his rival’s serve in the fourth set of their instant classic.

Carlos

Like Swiatek, Alcaraz’s last puzzle piece remaining is the first major on the calendar. But unlike his colleagues, Carlitos has one attempt to seal the career Grand Slam under his belt. The opportunity came into play when he picked up his first of two successive Roland Garros titles in 2024.

While Alcaraz may be the happiest guy on tour, it hasn’t translated to a joyful ending just yet at the Happy Slam. The Spaniard was outclassed in this year’s Australian Open quarterfinals by Novak Djokovic.

It was the second successive year that Alcaraz was stopped at that juncture of the event, after Alexander Zverev. Alcaraz missed the 2023 edition following his inaugural major triumph at the 2022 US Open due to injury and has notably opted not to play a lead-in event Down Under since 2021 when the tournament was staged in mid-February.

“I think in the last year I've been through in different situations that I learned from them. Right now I'm in a position that I've spoken a few times already that, okay, I just accept everything that is coming to me in the way it comes,” Alcaraz said after Sunday's defeat. “I just lost a final in a Grand Slam, but I just really proud about being in a final.”
