Carlos Alcaraz storms to 65th win of the year with quarterfinal victory over Nakashima in Tokyo

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has stormed into the semifinals of Tokyo, defeating American Brandon Nakashima in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 event on Sunday night, 6-2, 6-4.

And it was a milestone win for Alcaraz—his 65th of the year.

No one else on the men's tour is even at 50 wins yet for the season.

The only other men to win 65 or more matches in a season this decade are Daniil Medvedev (66 in 2023), Sinner (73 in 2024) and Zverev (69 in 2024).

Awaiting the No. 1-seeded Alcaraz in the semifinals in the Japanese capital will be No. 4-seeded Casper Ruud, who also cruised through his quarterfinal match, beating Australian qualifier Aleksandar Vukic, 6-3, 6-2.

Alcaraz leads Ruud in their head-to-head, 4-1, but Ruud's one win actually came in their last meeting, a 6-1, 7-5 victory in the round-robin stage of the ATP Finals last year. Alcaraz leads 3-0 on outdoor hard courts, though.

This will be the pair's first meeting of this year.
