BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP)—Fifth-seeded Peng Shuai of China beat Silvia Njiric of Croatia in straight sets in the first round of the Budapest Grand Prix.

Peng advanced with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on Monday. She won the last five games of the first set and held off the wild card in the second.

Russian Anna Chakvetadze, a former Top 5 player now ranked 102nd, moved on with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ukraine's Mariya Koryttseva.

Catalina Castano of Colombia, a Budapest Grand Prix winner in 2000, beat Kristina Kucova of Slovakia 6-0, 6-3, and Hungary's Greta Arn rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory against Darya Kustova of Belarus.
