HASSELT, Belgium (AP)—Kim Clijsters defeated Maret Ani 6-4, 6-2 to help Belgium sweep the opening singles matches Saturday against Estonia in the Fed Cup World Group playoffs.

Clijsters won despite needing treatment on her left foot during the second set.

Yanina Wickmayer overcame Kaia Kanepi 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to put the host team one win away from clinching a spot in next year’s World Group.

The reverse singles will be played Sunday, followed by a potentially decisive doubles match.

Justine Henin of Belgium pulled out of singles because of a broken left little finger. She injured it during training earlier in the week.
