Kim Clijsters has defeated Venus Williams 6-2, 6-1 to win Miami and mark her return to the Top 10. That will make Clijsters the top-ranked Belgian, moving her ahead of Yanina Wickmayer.
"I really felt from the beginning today that I was ready to go," said Clijsters, who edged Justine Henin in a third-set tiebreak in the semifinals. "My semifinal was such an exciting match, I just tried to keep going from there and not lose a beat..."
Venus, who received treatment for her left knee during the match, never made an impact in the 58-minute contest. "Today wasn't my best day physically, and to not play your best is a mental battle," she said.—K.T.
