After losing in the first round of Roland Garros to Zheng Jie, France's Alize Cornet nearly breaks down in tears. Last weekend, Cornet reached the final of Strasbourg and pushed her ranking to No. 66. Had she beaten Zheng she would have put herself in a good position to qualify for the Olympics. The rankings cutoff for the Olympics is after Roland Garros.
"I feel like crying. It's really tough," said Cornet, who is suffering an abductor injury. "Okay, I'm going to get my act together. I will go in four years' time. Three months ago I was [No.] 125. I didn't think I could go to the Olympic Games. I came back into the race and I thought I was going to go. Nobody expected me to be able to, and then I'm about to jump the last step and I can't jump that one last step. Of course I'm hurt. I'm disappointed. I'm a fighter. I really wanted to go to the Olympic Games to defend the French flag. Saturday I came here, yesterday I couldn't even practice because of that injury. I walked on the court this morning and I lose the match and the tournament is over. That's it. It's really tough. It's really difficult. I didn't even have time to enjoy Roland Garros on the court."
