Frank Dancevic, who returned to the tour last month after back surgery, has reportedly cut himself badly by running into a scoreboard during his Atlanta qualifying match against Nick Lindahl last weekend.

"Frank was playing match point when he hit the board at full run," Canadian Davis Cup captain Martin Laurendeau told Rue Frontenac. "He couldn't see it because of his position and speed.

"He hit the corner very sharply, so the cut is a good 24 centimeters on his leg, up to the hip."

The wound required stitches. "The doctor said if Frank had gone a few centimeters closer and cut his muscle, it would have been much more serious."

Dancevic has withdrawn from Los Angeles next week and is not yet sure whether he will be able to play Washington. The setback could limit the Canadian's ability to make full use of his protected ranking, which he was using to get into qualifying for this summer's events.
