DEN BOSCH, Netherlands(AP) Third-seeded David Ferrer of Spain began his title defense at the Ordina Open with a 6-2, 7-5 win Monday over wild-card entry Jesse Huta Galung.
Sixth-seeded Marc Gicquel of France defeated Steve Darcis 6-2 6-3.
Mischa Zverev was 4-1 down when his retirement allowed Michael Llodra of France to advance to the second round. Oscar Hernandez and Jeremy Chardy also won.
In the women's event, Daniela Hantuchova defeated Roberta Vinci 7-6 (2) 6-4, while Ksenia Pervak stopped Petra Cetkovska 7-5 7-6 (6).
Later Monday, three-time semifinalist Tommy Robredo faces Marcos Baghdatis.
