Defending champion Novak Djokovic dispatches American Denis Kudla

Novak Djokovic continued his Wimbledon title defense with a flawless 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Denis Kudla. Grass is Kudla’s favorite surface and he made the fourth round at the All England Club in 2015, but the American was no match for a rock-solid Djokovic.

Heading into the match, Kudla knew he would have to play his absolute best to defeat the world No. 1.

“He has the best backhand in the world so you aren’t going to beat him there,” Kudla said. “His forehand is as good as anyone’s; he doesn’t have the best serve in the world but he hits his spots, and he never misses a return.”

“At his peak I think Djokovic plays the game at the highest level it’s ever been played,” Kudla added.

The world No. 111 could not neutralize Djokovic's return, winning a sub-par 55 percent of his first-serve points, and a dismal 28 percent of his second-serve points.

Djokovic will face off against the big-hitting Pole Hubert Hurkacz in the third round.
