Del Potro to get back to training "soon" following knee improvement

Juan Martin del Potro appears to have decided to avoid knee surgery, consulting Rafael Nadal's doctor about his injury.

The Argentine said on social media that he had undergone testing in Barcelona with Dr. Angel Ruiz Cotorro, who works for the Spanish tennis federation and is regularly used by Nadal.

Sidelined since Shanghai with a fractured kneecap, del Potro has been having PRP treatment, and according to La Nacion, had considered surgery if the injury did not improve.

But del Potro says the doctor was "satisfied with my progress" and added that "soon I will be back on court training."

The former Grand Slam champion has not announced what his next tournament will be, and had initially been scheduled to return at Delray Beach several weeks ago.

Having reached a career-high No. 3 in 2018, del Potro is down to No.9 in the rankings.
