In anticipation of her semifinal against Serena Williams at the Brisbane International, world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka says that she is looking forward to it despite a 1-11 record against the American. Williams won all five of their contests in 2012, including the U.S. Open final.
“The tougher it is the more exciting for me it’s going to be. So I’m quite happy with that,” Azarenka said. “Every time I [played her] I learned something. It’s the matter of getting it all together and try to execute it in the right way.”
Serena has won her last 15 matches and 34 of her last 35. Azarenka insisted that wasn’t a source of motivation.
“I’m there to win the match, not to end somebody’s streaks and not to stop somebody from doing something,” she said. “I’m just focused on myself, and that’s how I always am. I would like to win every time we meet. It doesn’t really matter where it is.”
