WATCH: Kyrgios reached the quarterfinals in Tokyo, defeating Kamil Majchrzak in three sets in the second round.

Looking to build towards the Australian Open, Nick Kyrgios plans to play a full schedule for the rest of this season. The Aussie returned to action at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships, where he reached the quarterfinals before withdrawing due to a knee injury.

The 27-year-old was initially unsure whether he would play again this season following his quarterfinal defeat at the US Open, but still has Basel and the Paris Masters on his schedule following his Tokyo exit.

"I've got really good confidence in my game right now, so I don't really doubt myself even when I'm down a set. I think playing Grand Slams and going far in Grand Slams has given me that confidence," he told press.

His return to tour comes as a hearing commences in Australia regarding assault charges brought by his ex-girlfriend, Chiara Passari.

He has shown remarkable consistency during the second half of the season, which includes a run to the final of Wimbledon. That's something he wants to keep up during the next few weeks.

But he is still emphasizing that the Grand Slams are his top goal, saying that his quarterfinal defeat "really, really hurt" at the US Open, especially as he had taken down top seed and defending champ Daniil Medvedev.

“I considered myself the favorite after beating Daniil Medvedev,” Kyrgios said. "Now I just have to wait until the Australian Open but I just want to keep my form, the way I'm playing, I want to keep that going."

The Aussie is No.20 on the ATP Tour, with an outside shot of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.
