Home favorite Somdev Devvarman has won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, defeating Australian Greg Jones 6-4, 6-2 in the final.
The women's final a day earlier also featured an India vs. Australia face-off, with recently-minuted Aussie Anastasia Rodionova defeating Sania Mirza in a third-set tiebreak. The two countries lead the gold medal count at the Games so far.
Australia has dominated the tennis events, medalling at least once in each event. Paul Hanley and Peter Luczak took the doubles gold over England's Ross Hutchins and Ken Skupski, while Rodionova and Sally Peers combined to take the women's doubles 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 against another Aussie pair, Jessica Moore and Olivia Rogowska.
Rodionova just missed out on a triple gold, playing and losing the mixed doubles final with Hanley. The temperamental one-time Russian left the court in tears and would not talk to media afterwards. Scotland's Jocelyn Rae and Colin Fleming won the match 7-6(7), 6-7(2), 6-2.
Aussies Matt Edben and Peers also won bronze in the men's and women's singles, respectively.
India won bronze in the men's and women's doubles. Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes, and Sania Mirza and Rushmi Chakravarthi both defeated other Indian teams to win.
Skupksi and Sarah Borwell of England took bronze in the mixed, also defeating another English team.
