In August, the Davis Cup announced changes to the tournament starting in 2019. Instead of four weekends spread throughout the year, with the final two teams facing off each November, the team event will now be a one-week, 18-team competition after the ATP Finals.

Players will also have to compete in the Davis Cup if they want to compete in the 2020 Olympics, a rule Novak Djokovic has boycotted.

The format change has been met with some controversy. While the tournament organizers believe it will bring vigor back into an event some believe has gotten stale, certain players, such as Roger Federer and Lucas Pouille, believe the tournament's format was fine the way it was.
