Jelena Dokic says she spent much of the second half of 2010 preparing for next season because her fitness was lacking, she was hurt and she wasn’t feeling good about her game. Currently ranked No. 137, Dokic is now working with veteran coach Glenn Schaap after parting ways with her longtime boyfriend’s brother, Borna Bikic.

“I needed to make some changes. I felt like I was stuck in one place and my game wasn't going anywhere,'' the former world No. 4 said. “Glenn wants to focus on getting my fitness right, working on my movement, my serves and just getting everything in order.”

Schaap's former students include Dinara Safina, Anna Chakvetadze and Nadia Petrova. Dokic just received a wild card into Brisbane and will also need a wild card to get into the Australian Open, where she reached the quarterfinals two years ago.

“Glenn has really brought back a lot of motivation,” she said. “I've always had it but he has re-fueled it. “He is extremely tough, he doesn't take any nonsense. He really makes me work hard and I like that and I can already see big improvements on the court.”—Matthew Cronin
