Elena Rybakina made a winning start to her Mutua Madrid Open campaign on Friday afternoon, fighting back from a set down to defeat an inspired Elena-Gabriela Ruse, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

And that fightback brought her a very significant victory, as it was her milestone 100th career win at a WTA 1000 event.

WTA 1000 events are one of the highest levels of tournament on the women’s tour, only out-ranked (ranking points-wise) by the four Grand Slams and the season-ending WTA Finals.

The Kazakh is now 100-40 in her career at this level.
