Bouchard made her 2025 debut earlier this month at a WTA 125K tournament in Newport, Rhode Island, where she lost to American Anna Sinclair Rogers in straight sets. The 31-year-old Canadian has largely been off the court since 2023, playing just two events in 2024.

A former Wimbledon finalist, Bouchard accepted a wild card to play her home event, where she made her main draw debut back in 2012 as a teenager.

“We are very honoured that Genie decided to retire at her home tournament in Montreal and we look forward to celebrating her career and lasting heritage with our fans,” said Valérie Tétreault, Tournament Director, National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montréal. “She has been one of the most important figures in the history of our sport in Canada and a trailblazer who redefined what Canadian tennis could be. We are proud of everything she has done, as a player and role model, and we can’t wait to see her in action one last time at IGA Stadium this summer.”

Bouchard made her Top 5 debut at the end of a breakout 2014, but struggled to match those results in seasons, suffering a concussion that forced her to withdraw before the fourth round of the 2015 US Open.

She made a return to form in 2021, finishing runner-up at a WTA 250 tournament in Guadalajara, but suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery and sat out the remainder of the season.

In addition to forays into commentary, serving as an analyst for Tennis Channel, Bouchard has become one to watch on the PPA tour, achieving a Top 20 ranking in pickleball.
