Roger Federer says he will go all out to retain the No. 1 ranking. After his loss to Andy Murray in the Shanghai semifinals and No. 2 Novak Djokovic’s title run there, Federer is 2,155 points behind Djokovic in the ATP points race and still must defend 3,000 points from 2011 title runs in Basel, the Paris Masters, and the ATP World Tour Finals. Djokovic only has to defend 660 points.
Federer said that he has already achieved his goal of reclaiming No. 1 after he won Wimbledon, but adds: “I would love to finish No. 1 as well for the end of the year. For that it's going to take a great stretch again, winning Basel, Paris, and London I assume to give myself a chance. I'm relaxed about it. I'll give everything I can. I want to get through this season well and finish strong.”
