WIMBLEDON, England (AP) Roger Federer and Andy Murray have split the first two sets of the Wimbledon final.

Murray broke twice in the first set Sunday, which he won 6-4. The only break in the second set came in the final game, which Federer won 7-5.

Both missed chances early, with Federer converting two of five break-point opportunities through two sets, and Murray converting two of six. The finalists waged a succession of long rallies, and Murray held his own against the favored Federer.

Federer was trying to add to his record 16 Grand Slam championships, and tie a record by winning Wimbledon for a seventh time. Murray was trying to become the first British man to win a Grand Slam title since Fred Perry took Wimbledon and the U.S. Championships in 1936.
