Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have been slotted on opposite sides of the draw for the Toronto Masters next week, assuring they will not meet before the final.
With Federer having dropped to the No. 3 ranking and Nadal back at No. 1, there was the possibility that the two could play their first semifinal against each other since the 2005 French Open.
The last time the pair was in danger of meeting during a semifinal was at the Rome Masters in May, when was Nadal was the No. 3 seed. Both were drawn in the same half at the spring claycourt event, but the clash did not take place after Federer lost his opening match to Ernests Gulbis.
Federer is slated for a semifinal against Novak Djokovic, but first potentially faces Wimbledon rematches against Alejandro Falla and Tomas Berdych.
