Even though he has won just one tournament and is 0-5 against No. 1 Rafael Nadal and No. 2 Novak Djokovic this year, No. 3 Roger Federer says he can still reclaim the No. 1 ranking. "It's still important for me to get back to being No. 1," Federer said in Rome. "I mentioned after Wimbledon it was a goal of mine. It's still very real and possible. I think I can do it if I win one of those Grand Slams."

With 285 total weeks at No. 1, the Swiss is still one week behind Pete Sampras for the all-time lead. "They (Djokovic and Nadal) are playing better than me but I'm close to winning those tournaments," said Federer. "It's not as if I'm losing in the first or second rounds. I feel I'm playing well myself. Apart from Novak not losing all year not much has changed in the game. Everybody can play well on all surfaces these days."—Matthew Cronin
