Roger Federer has been selected as the European athlete of the year for the fifth time. Federer received 135 points from the eighteen European news agencies participating in the vote, with Formula 1 champ Jensen Button coming in second with 81 points.
After winning for four straight years between 2004 and 2007, Federer recaptured the award again this season on the strength of his French Open and Wimbledon victories, which gave him the career Slam and the men's Grand Slam title record.
