Felix Auger-Aliassime had his best-ever run at Roland Garros this year, reaching the quarterfinals of the clay-court major for the first time in his career before falling to eventual finalist Flavio Cobolli.

With that run he made some history, too—having already reached the quarterfinals or better at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open before, he became the first Canadian man ever to reach the quarterfinals or better at all four Grand Slams in his career.

And today, there’s a bit of icing on the cake.

Auger-Aliassime rises from No. 6 to No. 4 today, surpassing his previous-best of No. 5, and he's now tied for second-highest-ranked Canadian player in either ATP or WTA rankings history.

The only other two Canadian players to reach the Top 4 are Milos Raonic and Bianca Andreescu. Raonic, best known for reaching the final of Wimbledon in 2016, went as high as No. 3 on the ATP rankings later that year, and Andreescu, Canada's first Grand Slam champion at the 2019 US Open, peaked at No. 4 later that year.

Seven Canadian players in total have reached the Top 10 in either ATP or WTA rankings history, which date back to 1973 and 1975.

HIGHEST-RANKED CANADIANS IN ATP OR WTA RANKINGS HISTORY:

  • No. 3: Milos Raonic [ATP No. 3 in 2016]
  • No. 4: Bianca Andreescu [WTA No. 4 in 2019]
  • No. 4: Felix Auger-Aliassime [ATP No. 4 in 2026]
  • No. 5: Eugenie Bouchard [WTA No. 5 in 2014]
  • No. 8 Carling Bassett-Seguso [WTA No. 8 in 1985]
  • No. 9: Victoria Mboko [WTA No. 9 in 2026]
  • No. 10: Denis Shapovalov [ATP No. 10 in 2020]

Auger-Aliassime will have some work to do to move even higher, though, as he’s almost 3,000 points—2,865, to be exact—behind the current world No. 3, Alexander Zverev (7,305 to 4,440).

But the tennis isn’t stopping for the Canadian, who kicks off his grass-court season this week at the ATP 250 event in ’s-Hertogenbosch, where he’s the No. 1 seed and after a first-round bye will open against either Hubert Hurkacz or Marton Fucsovics.

His fellow Top 10 players, Alex de Minaur and Daniil Medvedev, are the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in the Netherlands this week.
