David Ferrer wins Acapulco, defeating Juan Carlos Ferrero 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Ferrero, the champion at Santiago and Buenos Aires, was bidding to win three titles in three weeks and riding a 14-match win streak.
Ferrero has also pulled out of Spain's Davis Cup tie against Switzerland this week with a knee injury.
Venus Williams did succeed in winning her second title in as many tries, defeating Polona Hercog 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to add the Acapulco title after winning in Dubai last week.
