As I write, Frankie Schiavone is one set up on her opponent in Austria, Yvonne Meusburger - could she be on her way to claiming her first WTA tour title at last? Also in Kitzbuhel, Juan Monaco faces Potito Starace for the title (the latter is also in the doubles final).
Meanwhile Carlos Moya (in the news for other reasons unrelated to tennis already this week), is competing for his fifth title in Umag, against an even more experienced tour veteran, Andrei Pavel. In Indianapolis the Other Frankie (Frank Dancevic) played well enough yesterday to take out Andy Roddick in straights, and will be facing number three seed Dmitri Tursunov. Tursunov defeated Sam Querrey in the semis, which, following rain delays, were played back-to-back yesterday with the quarterfinals - leaving Querrey little time to savour yesterday's three-tiebreak defeat of James Blake.
I am personally looking forward to watching Sania Mirza face off aganist Anna Chakvetadze in the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford. For some reason I have had very few opportunities to see either woman play before now. It's also interesting to see that both are also competing (on opposite sides) in the doubles final. Has the new doubles format had an effect on the number of singles players prepared to compete?
Pete may check in later today - for the moment, please use this as your match-calling thread, and for discussion of other tennis-related matters. OT goes in the Deuce Club (Tribe Notes) thread for now.
