With the Netherlands having already qualified for the Davis Cup quarterfinals in their group, it was a winner-take-all clash between the United States and Finland on Saturday for the second spot in the final eight—and it was the Finns who came through.

After No. 125-ranked Otto Virtanen took out No. 39-ranked Mackenzie McDonald in the first rubber, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (7), twice coming back from a break down in the third set and even fighting off two match points down 6-5 and 7-6 in the ensuing tie-break, Emil Ruusuvuori put the finishing touches on Finland's triumph, rallying from 5-2 down to sneak out the first set and grabbing a late break in the second set en route to a 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory over Tommy Paul.

The No. 57-ranked Ruusuvuori's victory over the No. 13-ranked Paul was the milestone 10th Top 20 win of his career.

Finland are now into the Davis Cup quarterfinals for the first time.

The United States are 32-time Davis Cup champions.

Also booking their spots in the Davis Cup quarterfinals in Malaga, Spain on Saturday were Canada and Australia.

Canada, the defending Davis Cup champions, completed a clean sweep of their group with a 2-1 victory over Chile on Saturday, having already recorded 3-0 victories over both Italy and Sweden.

And Australia clinched their spot with a 3-0 victory over Switzerland—after Thanasi Kokkinakis and Alex de Minaur recorded straight-set victories in their singles matches, Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell defeated Marc-Andrea Huesler and Dominic Stricker in the doubles rubber, 6-2, 6-4, to seal their spot in the final eight.

The Czech Republic, Serbia and the Netherlands already qualified for the Davis Cup quarterfinals on Friday.

The last two spots will come down to Sunday’s ties. The winner of the tie between Great Britain and France will advance, while the winner of the tie between Italy and Sweden will determine who will join Canada in the final eight from Group A (Canada, Chile, Italy, Sweden).
