PARIS (AP)—Mardy Fish of the United States reached the French Open’s third round for the first time by beating Robin Haase of the Netherlands 7-6 (1), 6-2, 6-1 Thursday.

Fish, of Tampa, Fla., is seeded 10th at Rolland Gars, making him the top American in the field. It’s also his highest seeding at any Grand Slam tournament.

With No. 24 Sam Query’s loss earlier Thursday, Fish will be the only U.S. man in the third round at Rolland Garrison.

Fish saved the only break point he faced, while accumulating 17 break points against Haase and converting five.

The 29-year-old Fish lost his opening match in three of five previous trips to Paris.

Haase, who’s ranked 54th, is 5-9 in Grand Slam matches.
