Eugenie Bouchard, who fell to Kristina Mladenovic at Birmingham, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, has now lost 10 of her last 11 matches.
When asked whether she was upset and angry, the world No. 11 said, “Every negative adjective you could think of. Just very, very frustrated. You just have to keep going, right? Every time you fail you have to pick yourself up and keep going. That's what I've been doing in the past couple months, but it's still been happening. So I still need to keep going and have the belief that it'll turn around.”
Bouchard will play next week in Eastbourne and says she's not sure what she'll do in practice with her coach Sam Sumyk.
“I'm losing first round every week, so I have a whole week to prepare for the next week,” the 21-year-old said. “It's a pretty tiring routine. I don't know what we're going to work on. Hopefully stuff that helps me.”
After reaching the final of last year's Wimbledon, Bouchard has gone 16-21. Her highlights during that stretch include a fourth-round run at the U.S. Open, making the final at Wuhan, and reaching the quarterfinals at this year's Australian Open.
