A number of former touring pros played in the ITF Seniors World Team Championships in San Diego. The finals took place over two days at six different venues, with 166 teams from 27 countries competing in 10 age categories from 35-and-over to 55-and-over. Some ex-pros who played were Spain’s Julian Alonso, whose Italia Cup men’s 35s team fell to France in the final; the United States’ Jeff Tarango, whose Tony Trabert Cup men’s 40 team also lost to France; Britain’s Lucie Ahl, who with Karen Cross led their nation to the Suzanne Lenglen Cup (women’s 35s) title over France; former Top 10 player Sandrine Testud, who led France to a win over the United States in the Young Cup (women’s 40s). The U.S. also won the Maureen Connolly Cup (women’s 55s) over Britain with team members Susan Wright, Diane Barker, Carolyn Nichols and Leslie Airola Murveit.
