TOULON, France (AP)—Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils won their singles matches to give France a 2-0 lead over Germany in the first round of the Davis Cup.

Tsonga defeated Benjamin Becker 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (2), 6-3 and Monfils defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (5) on the indoor hardcourt of the Palais des Sports.

Tsonga had 19 aces and broke Becker six times to remain unbeaten in the Davis Cup, despite 67 unforced errors. He has a 7-0 record since his debut in 2008.

Tsonga made the decisive break in the second game of the fourth set when Becker sent a backhand wide.

Monfils had 15 aces in his first Davis Cup win.

The French pairing of Michael Llodra and Julien Benneteau will take on Kohlschreiber and Christopher Kas in doubles on Saturday.
