Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Lucas Pouille have joined Roger Federer in withdrawing from Melbourne due to recent injury layoffs.

Tsonga, who has been off the tour since the start of 2020, said that "despite great progress" he is not yet 100 percent following some ongoing back problems.

Ranked No. 62, the 35-year-old Frenchman indicated he still wants to play again this season.

Pouille, also from France, has not played since undergoing midseason elbow surgery. The 26-year-old also split with coach Amelie Mauresmo and tested positive for coronavirus during the season, and is due to become a first-time father soon.

The world No. 70 has decided to start his comeback at home, signing up for the newly-scheduled ATP challenger in Quimper. That will be followed by the Orleans challenger, and then likely some ATP Tour indoor European events.
