Three players who saw their semifinal matches either suspended or cancelled completely on Saturday returned to the court to begin a prolonged day at the office, some more than others.

Third seed Cristian Garin and qualifier Gianluca Mager set a final showdown in Rio de Janeiro. Garin began the day with a 6-4, 4-4 lead over fifth seed Borna Coric and needed four games to seal his victory, finishing off the Croatian 6-4, 7-5. The 23-year-old Chilean has won eight successive matches and is bidding to win his second title in three weeks following his Buenos Aires triumph over Diego Schwartzman.

Mager needed more time on court to reach his first ATP final, seeing his one-set lead disappear against Attila Balazs. The lucky loser secured an early break in the decider, but the Italian dug in and held his nerve in the end to prevail, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (2). Mager previously relinquished just two games against Balazs in qualifying and has won six matches this week, highlighted by a stunning upset over world No. 4 Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals.

Garin and Mager will be back in action not before 5:30 p.m. local time.

At the Delray Beach Open, No. 4 seed Reilly Opelka fended off a match point to rally past No. 2 seed Milos Raonic, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3. Opelka was down 5-6 in the second set tiebreaker, but won three straight points to level the clash. He then converted both of his break points in the third set to avenge his third-round defeat at 2019 Wimbledon to the former world No. 3.

Opelka won’t have much turnaround time to recover if he wants to raise his second ATP trophy. The West Palm Beach resident is due to take on Yoshihito Nishioka less than three hours after expending two hours and seven minutes on court against Raonic. The final is scheduled to begin not before 3:30 p.m. ET.
