Grigor Dimitrov’s return from his heartbreaking Wimbledon injury has been put on hold after taking the court for one singles and one doubles match at the Rolex Paris Masters.

The former world No. 3 withdrew from the 1000-level event Wednesday ahead of his second-round match with No. 11 seed Daniil Medvedev.

Less than 48 hours earlier, Dimitrov shone in his first appearance since partially tearing his right pectoral muscle while leading Jannik Sinner by two sets in the round of 16 at Wimbledon. The 34-year-old eased past Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, firing 26 winners in a 7-6 (5), 6-1 victory.

He then returned to the court Tuesday in a narrow doubles defeat with Nicolas Mahut in what marked the Frenchman’s final career match.

“I knew that coming to competition was going to be a difficult task. I just wanted to come out and test myself, give myself a chance,” the Bulgarian said after defeating Mpetshi Perricard.

A shoulder injury was the reason provided for Dimitrov cutting his stay at La Defense Arena short. He is not entered at either of next week's ATP 250 events held in Athens and Metz.

Medvedev, on the outside looking in for the Nitto ATP Finals, awaits the winner of fellow Turin hopeful Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego. The 2021 US Open champion captured the Paris Masters crown five years ago when the tournament was held at its long-time former venue in Bercy.
